This scent is halfway between the original Acqua di Gio and Bleu de Chanel. Both are good fragrances and Profondo is also good, although probably not as good as either of them. Compared to the original, it has much better projection and longevity. It's also more aggressive, or aromatic, or piercing, if you prefer, and musky. Aside from the muskiness, its character is mostly citrusy, salty, herbal, and mineral. Profondo has a warm and sweet component, helping to retain the chill vibe of the original. If AdG is the beach, this is the sea.
However, there is something weird about this scent, and it’s difficult to put it in words. Maybe it’s lavender, too aromatic. Maybe it’s kind of an umami taste. Maybe it’s a hint of a laundry detergent, and unlike in Bleu de Chanel it is not necessarily delicious. Maybe it’s that the background smells like a dry sponge, almost powdery. I much prefer Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense to Profondo. It’s saltier, which goes better with musk, and generally better put together.
Given that in almost 30 years they apparently couldn't improve Acqua di Gio performance, this might be the next best thing, along with other flankers like Profumo, which I haven't tried. And unlike AdG EDP it doesn't smell like chicken soup, although it goes in that direction a bit with all that musk.
