I first tried Sauvage Parfum, and upon smelling the EDT I was surprised at how similar it is. I expected something lighter and fresh, but it's heavy and smoky too. It’s also metallic due to ambroxan, which is pretty strong, probably the second strongest after Prada Luna Rossa Carbon among a few ambroxan scents I tried. I would say ambroxan is overdone in Sauvage too, although not as badly as in Luna Rossa Carbon.
The name fits the scent, as does the bottle. It's a dark, in-your-face, brutal smell. I find it irritating due to the strong dose of pepper and cedar. All in all, I would probably prefer any other popular blue scent, and if I wanted ambroxan specifically, Versace Dylan Blue and Parfums De Marly Percival are way more chill and better, in my opinion. Among Sauvage variants, I think EDP is the best of the line.
UPDATE: I wrote the review in the summer. Now it’s autumn and Sauvage smells a little better to me. It’s still very smoky, but it’s less irritating. The citrus may be more prominent and I can find a “delicious” aspect in the scent. I also think it might smell better on clothes and paper than on skin.
