Having started with Layton Exclusif, which I very much liked, I had high expectations for other Parfums de Marly, amplified by their premium pricing. Haltane was a disappointment, because it has a camphoric top that literally smells like a treatment room in a hospital, aggressive in a suffocating way.
Beneath it is oud and pralines and what not, a sweet-sticky smell. The camphor was probably meant to offset that, and it does, in a way. For me, these parts do not have anything in common and lean in opposite directions, resulting in a rather schizophrenic scent.
Now, maybe that's too much criticizing. The scent is decent, I would not be terribly opposed to wearing it. It's also pretty unique and I understand how some people may find it attractive.
